A short, mostly traffic-free ride, the Mawddach Trail is a fantastic choice. Follow the former Ruabon to Barmouth railway line from the historic town of Dolgellau to the popular Victorian seaside town of Barmouth, you will love the awe-inspiring views of the Mawddach estuary and nearby Cadair Idris mountain.
Look out for the diverse birdlife in the area, especially as you pass Arthog Bog RSPB reserve which uses one of the former signal boxes as an observation post.
The start of the Mawddach Trail is in Dolgellau, a market town located in Gwynedd, north-west Wales. Dolgellau is the main base for climbers of Cader Idris.
The end of the trail is found in Barmouth, also in Gwynedd, north-west Wales.
The Mawddach Trail starts by the main car park, near the bridge over the river and the Marian playing fields, in Dolgellau.
From there, follow the former railway line for a traffic-free ride and cross the cyclist and pedestrian bridge over the mouth of the estuary into Barmouth.
