Usk Reservoir

Explore Usk Reservoir, a stunning 6-mile family cycling route in the north-west corner of Brecon Beacons National Park.

Usk Reservoir is located in the upper Usk Valley and in the counties of Carmarthenshire and Powys, in southern Wales. The reservoir is situated in the western end of the Brecon Beacons National Park below the Black Mountain range.

Let’s Pedal

The Usk Reservoir features a 6-mile ride encircling the waters with wide, forest trails with some small climbs and descents. The looping route is clearly waymarked.

The trail can be muddy and bumpy in places so please take care. Lots of fun in fantastic countryside and perfect for mountain bikes.

How to get here

By Car

Usk Reservoir is 6 miles west of Trecastle, off A40 between Brecon and Llandovery. Look out for the Usk Reservoir signposts on the Llanddeusant road.

The car park and picnic area is on the western edge of Glasfynydd Woood toward Talsarn.

By Cycle

From the east, take the National Cycle Network (NCN) route 8 to Brecon then the local cycle route that begins outside Brecknock Museum and Art Gallery.

From Llandeilo, the local cycle route begins outside the railway station.
