Drumlanrig Castle is a 17th-century pink sandstone marvel surrounded by cycling and mountain biking trails. With lots to choose from, and suitable for cyclists of all types and abilities, you will love cycling these woodland trails. New cycling routes are being added all the time.

Access to the estate is by paid entry.


Drumlanrig Castle is located 17 miles north of Drumfries on the A76 in the direction of Kilmarnock.

Alton Rigg – Green – 8 miles / 12.9 km

A gentle ride through the picturesque hamlet of Burnsands with stunning views of the Lowther Hills and the Nith Valley.

The Three Lochs – Green – 3.1 miles / 5 km

An easy forest trail taking you past three lochs.

The Castle Round – Green – 5 miles / 8 km

A wandering trail passing lochs and streams to the old castle kitchen gardens.

Copy Cat – Blue – 5.6 miles / 9 km

A mixed route with some technical aspects, suitable for groups of cyclists with different abilities.

The Old School – Red – 12.4 miles / 20 km

A 40-cm single track, technical trail with berms, drop-offs, and wooden structures.

Magic Eight – Black – 5 miles / 8.1 km

A narrow trail with steep climbs, descents  and lots of technical challenges and obstacles.

How to get here

By Car

Drumlanrig Castle is located off the A76 (Dumfries to Kilmarnock road), 17 miles north of Dumfries, and is signposted from the M74 (Junction 14 southbound) and A702 at Abington and Elvanfoot. Follow the green signs marked Drumlanrig Castle.

Approximately one hour from Glasgow.
