Discover 10 miles (16 km) of trails of varying grades suitable for everyone at Red Rock Trails at Learnie Forest on the Black Isle in The Highlands. With stunning views from the mountains and green, blue and black grade trails, mountain biking has never been better on the peninsula.

North of Inverness, the Learnie Red Rock Trails offer a varied riding opportunity like no other and have features to challenge new and experienced riders.

For those with the technical skill, try the orange-graded bike park and dirt jump areas.

Location

The Red Rock Trails at Learnie is found north of Inverness on the Black Isle peninsula.

Let’s Pedal

Learnie Red Rock Trails has routes suitable for riders of all abilities. The trails start from the car park and are well signposted.

Green Trail – Green – 2 miles / 3.2 km

An easy ride on forest roads which loops back to the car park. Suitable for riders of all abilities.

Callachy Hill, Callachy Downhill, Muirhead Climb and Firth Views – Blue – 6 miles / 9.7 km

From the car park, follow the signs for the green trail and turn right onto the forest road to the Callachy Hill Climb start. Wind your way through the trees and look out for the Bronze Age burial cairn. Follow the signposts, cross the Learnie and enjoy the fabulous views.

Learnie Hill – Black – 2 miles / 3.2 km

For experienced riders only, this black- or severe-grade trail takes you over two hills that will test your technical skills.

Dirt Jump Area – Orange

The dirt jump area is beside the car park.

How to get here

By Car

Red Rock Trails is located at Learnie, north of Inverness.

Take the A9 north-west from Inverness crossing Beauty Firth. After approximately 2 miles, take the right turn onto B9161 to Bogallan and Munlochy. Take the A832 east passing through Fortrose and Rosemarkie. After about 3 miles you will see the entrance to Red Rock Trails on your right.

By Cycle

National Cycle Network (NCN) Route 1 from Inverness and Rosemarkie. NCN1 passes at the rear of the Red Rock Trails (the on-road route uses a quieter road running parallel with A832). You can join the blue route on this road at the Fir Hill start.
