The Rother Valley Country Park to Chesterfield cycling route begins in South Yorkshire at Wales Bar, and finishes in the centre of Chesterfield at Taptop Lock Visitors Centre on the Chesterfield Canal.

Let’s Pedal

Beginning at Rother Valley Country Park, where you may hire bicycles if required, cycle in either direction around the lake (heading to the south end is the shorter route) and in the south-west corner take the first path away from the lake, under the bridge and up a short ramp onto the Trans Pennine Trail (TPT). Turn left and head south.

Follow the path for approximately 6 miles until you come to the canal (currently undergoing construction). You will see signs for Chesterfield on both sides of the canal, you need the far side, so head up the ramp where you will see a sign pointing left towards Pools Brook Country Park (approximately 1 mile from your position).

If you want a break, head towards Pools Brook where you can stop for refreshments or to use the facilities including children’s playground, or even cycle around the lake.

Back at the junction for Pools Brook and Chesterfield, head down the ramp following the canal to Staveley Town Basin. Eventually you will come to a road which you must cross with care then you are at Hollingwood Hub and Katey’s Coffee Shop where you will find refreshments and toilets with ample bike parking.

Continue along the towpath where you will cross another road before arriving at Tapton Lock Visitor Centre also with refreshments and facilities.
