Cannock Chase

Cannock Chase is a Forestry Commission site with a number of bridleways perfect for cycling. With a mix of green (easy), blue (moderate), red (expert) and black (extreme) routes, there is something to suit everyone’s ability.

Many of the cycling trails are wide, stone tracks which are dry nearly all year round. Cycle freely in this open woodland area and enjoy the natural beauty found in the West Midlands.

Cannock Chase is located near Rugeley in Staffordshire in the West Midlands. North of Birmingham, Cannock Chase is centrally located and easily accessible from Wolverhampton, Derby and Coventry.

Cannock Chase is ideal for young riders to experienced cyclists. With a mix of trail difficulties ranging from green to black, you will find a cycling trail to meet your needs.

Trails start at Birches Valley Visitor Centre with convenient parking adjacent to the centre and cycle hire available too. Simply follow the signs for your chosen trail and enjoy your ride.

There are two red grade mountain biking trails available built by Chase Trails volunteer group – Follow The Dog and Monkey Trail. Each is trail is 6 miles (9.66 km) long with a variety of interesting challenges including step ups and downs, rock paths, jumps, drops plus much more.

Cannock Chase is located near Rugeley in Staffordshire.

The Birches Valley Visitor Centre (cycle hire) can be reached via the A460 from Rugeley.

The Marquis Drive Visitor Centre is accessed from the A460 from Cannock.
