Viking Coastal Trail
The Viking Coastal trail is a 32-mile (51.4 km) circular route exploring one of the most attractive areas of Kent.
With lots to stop off, see and do, this intriguing cycling route visits some of the most well-known holiday towns in the south of England before heading inland and visiting picturesque Kent villages.
The Viking Coastal Trail offers family friendly cycling on flat, traffic-free promenades or along quiet country lanes.
Along the way, look at for the Viking Ship ‘Hugin’ at Pegwell Bay named for one of Odin’s ravens, Ramsgate Maritime Museum, Charles Dickens’ House in Broadstairs from 1837 to 1851, and St Augustine’s Cross (west of Ramsgate) marking the site where the first Mass is said to have been held in 597AD.

The Viking Coastal Trail is located in the north-east of Kent, east of Whitstable, and includes famous holiday towns such as Ramsgate and Margate.
Start the trail at any point on the route. We recommend Birchington-on-Sea and that you cycle in a clockwise direction.
Beginning in Birchington-on-Sea, you will ride through or near Westgate-on-Sea, Margate, Botany Bay, Viking Bay at Broadstairs, Ramsgate, Cliffsend, Minster, St. Nicholas At Wade, Grays and Reculver before returning to Birchington.
The route is signposted as National Cycle Network route (NCN) 15 and also as Viking Coastal Trail.

How to get here
Birchington-on-Sea and Margate are both reached from Whitstable going east on the A299 and A28.
From Canterbury, head north-east on the A28.

Join the trail from Whitstable on NCN 15 east, or from Sandwich on NCN 15 north.
