Newport to Sandown

The Newport to Sandown route is the easiest part of the Isle of Wight coast-to-coast ride and is entirely off-road until you reach your destination.

Following a former railway path south and east to Sandown, you cycle through a woodland and the agricultural heart of the island making your way to Sandown and the beach.

The full coast-to-coast ride begins in Cowes, also off-road, until you cycle through the streets of Newport to join this off-road section before heading to Sandown.

Lovely easy route, and you can raise money for charity while cycling on it!

This is a great route and is part of the Red Squirrel Trail (yes, you do see red squirrels on it!). Very flat and easy going. Variable surface – some tarmac, some gravel, some a bit muddy, and some tree root damage in places. The route also gives you easy options for getting to Cowes, Shanklin and Wroxall. There is a lot of information about how to access the route and things to see along the way on the www.pedalaid.org website. And with the PedalAid app you can help raise money for local charities just by cycling this route. What’s not to like!
