Heywood Wood in Eggesford Forest is a 3-mile (4.8km) Forestry Commission trail ideally suited for mountain bikes due to the variety of rough surfaces. The trail is clearly waymarked. Follow the wooden posts marked with a red band.
This fun route through the wood rises and falls with some steeper sections.
Heywood Wood is located at Eggesford, near Exeter.
From Heywood Wood car park, return to the lane then turn right. Pass Heywood House Farm and turn right heading downhill on the forest path.
Take the left path waymarked with the red-banded wooden post towards Hilltown car park.

How to get here
Reach Heywood Wood by taking the A377 from Eggesford Station then take the road signposted for Wembworthy and shortly after a road signposted the same. Climb for 1 mile and take the right turning signposted Bridge Reeve. Follow the road for half a mile after Wembley Outdoor Centre and the car park is on your left.
