Pools Brook to Rother Valley

The Pools Brook to Rother Valley cycling route is a great way to spend a few hours. Suitable for everyone of all ages and abilities, this mostly flat route is traffic-free following the Trans Pennine Trail. In fact, you only cross one main road by pedestrian crossing.

The route is surrounded by trees and greenery, and has a number of access points along its route between Staveley, Renishaw and Killamarsh.

A fantastic ride which will build the confidence of young and new riders alike.

The route begins at Pools Brook Country Park in Staveley, Derbyshire and ends at Rother Valley Country Park in Wales Bar, South Yorkshire.

Let’s Pedal

Begin from the visitor centre at Pools Brook Country Park and take the trail path up the hill, past the car park (with the lake behind you). Cross the road to the caravan park and follow the path.

When you come to end of this connecting path, turn right onto the Trans Pennine Trail (TPT) heading north-east. Follow the path.

When nearly at Rother Valley, you will see the path spurs on your right, heading almost backwards parallel to the path you cycled to arrive at this point. There is a fingerboard with blue signs for TPT and Rother Valley Country Park. Follow this path, be careful cycling around the rocks preventing vehicles at the bottom and follow the path around to the left.

You will shortly arrive at Rother Valley Country Park with the lake in front of you. You are currently in the south corner of the lake. The path goes all around the lake, with the café and facilities on the east side. Turn right for a shorter ride to the café, left for a longer ride.

For the return journey, follow the same route back.

The Pools Brook to Rother Valley route is part of a longer traffic-free route, The Cuckoo Way, which splits 1 mile from Pools Brook Country Park and heads towards Chesterfield.
