The Good Cycling Code

Tips For A Stress-Free Ride

Here is our Good Cycling Code, some simple tips that as cyclists we can all do so that everyone can enjoy the various routes, trails and paths while out on your bike ride:

Good Cycling Code

Good Cycling Code

  • Please keep to the left when using routes at busy times unless directed otherwise
  • Cyclists should always give way to all other users, especially pedestrians and horse riders
  • Be polite, considerate and courteous – if someone lets you pass, say thanks!
  • Travel at a speed appropriate to the conditions, taking extra care when your route is busy – be prepared to slow down or stop if necessary
  • Take care at junctions, bends and entrances
  • Bikes are quiet so let people know you are approaching – ring your bell or a friendly ‘Hello!’ works wonders, but remember that many people are hard of hearing or visually impaired – don’t assume they can see or hear you
  • Take care when passing others, especially children and older or disabled people, and allow them plenty of room

Countryside Code

  • Enjoy the countryside and respect its life and work
  • Guard against all risk of fire
  • Fasten all gates
  • Keep your dogs under close control
  • Take your litter home
  • Help to keep all water clean
  • Protect wildlife, plants and trees
  • Make no unnecessary noise
